Palisade and Walls
While I am busy preparing new webiste for launch, the rest of our team is fixing holes in our feature list, and one of them is the Walls.

Since this time around defense will be more important matter, we decided it might be cool to add more defensive structures. Aside from defensive towers you will also have this upgradeable palisade.

Like any other building you will be able to improve it with upgrades. Upgrades will make your wall/palisade look more impressive too.

Introducing Advisors
Totem Tribe 2 will be complex game. Way more complex than original game and in order to convey every important bit of information we have to find an interesting and fun way to do that.

Initial vital information will be provided via tutorial quests, but what about all the deeper stuff? This is where advisors come in.

There will be two advisors in the game - Bulat the War Advisor, and Zweistein the Peace advisor:

You can guess who is who.

Those advisors will be giving you optional quests on what you should do to improve your current state of the country. When you feel the need of advice - you ask them and they will tell you about your current weaknesses and what you should do to fix them.

Bulat will be giving advice about military side of things - how to defend, which units to build, when to attack, etc.

Zweistein on the other hand will give hints on what to build and research to improve your economy, culture, tech, etc.

6 different Victory types.
This time we will tell you how we plan to handle endgame.

Despite the fact that Totem Tribe 2 will be an online multiplayer game, it doesn't mean it will be endless pointless game without ultimate goal like number of those games on Facebook.

We plan to have 6 completely different Victories that player can aspire to. Those endings are Adventure, Culture, Science, Wealth, Expansion, and War Victories. Let me tell about them one by one.

Adventure Victory is basically like you end the game in Totem Tribe 1 - you follow the story until the end, beat the final boss in the end and you are done.

Culture Victory involves focus on building buildings that increase culture of your country and when it's high enough, your country will start luring persons of figure and quests associated with them. Once you will have whole pantheon, you win!

Science Victory requires to research every single unlockable thing in the Technology Tree (and that tree is quite big). You will have to focus on having buildings that increase your research.

Wealth Victory needs you to accumulate huge amounts of resources and spend them building Wonder of the World to show whole world the wealth and glory of your country. To do so, you will need a lot of production facilities, as well as marketplaces and a lot of time spent into trade.

Expansion Victory involves expanding borders of your country and promoting your title from Noble to Duke to Emperror.

And finally War Victory requires to fill Hall of Fame with war trophies.

But when you win the game - it is not over! You can restart it again and some things will remain. For example you will be allowed to keep limited number of items found on your playthrough, your hero stats maximum limit will be increased, and your achievements will stay (In fact some of them require you to beat the game several times in order to get them).

This system will allow the game to both have a clear and distinct goal but also last as long and player wants to play it.

Let us know what do you think about these victory types.

Totem Tribe 2 achievements and medals
The fact that Totem Tribe 2 is an online multiplayer game means there will be enough competition for those people who are into battles and player-versus-player warfare. But what about those more casual folk who are not interested in battling others, but still would like to experience some kind of lighter competition? That's where achievements come in. Totem Tribe 2 will feature achievement system which will allow you to compete with other players without engaging them directly.

There will be thousands of different achievements in 6 categories. When you get some achievement you are awarded with prestige points and when you have enough prestige points in some category, you will receive a medal.

Here how those medals will look like:

(These are 9 out of 60 medals already made)

Both your prestige points and medals will be visible to other players at the player info screen, next to your hero picture. And that will be visible on the website too!

Beach Music
In the last update I've posted the screenshot of the seashore location and since we haven't been showing up music for a while, I decided to let you hear what kind of music will be playing on such locations:

Couple of screenshots again and the Idol of Fortune.
At the moment we are deep into technical stuff with Totem Tribe 2 website and some other things that probably are not too interesting to most of players. Thus I decided to post some screenshots or things you havent seen before.

In original game most of the game took place on tropical islands. In TT2 the game will take place mainly in continental parts, but that does not mean you will not have a chance to see some familial sceneries from the first game like this one:

There will be also trademark "get a strange object somewhere and put it somewhere else" interaction.

For example, this is the Idol of Fortune:

And in this well once a day you can find lucky coin:

After getting that coin you can give it to the idol and he will grant you some random useful item.

Just a little incentive to enter the game each day : )

Totem Tribe 2 website in the works
Looking at the schedule there is one last major milestone left before the launch of alpha version. That milestone is launching the dedicated website and we are currently working hard on it.

Why website is so important and requires so much work if we could just use already existing website scripts and slap our design on it? That's because we want to have website tightly integrated with the game. The website will have same accounts as the game and when people post - the portraits of their heroes are displayed next to their posts. Also when you click detailed info of the player, you can see their details from the game - level of his/her hero, population size, etc.

Finally, right before the website launch we will reveal one very important and interesting feature about Totem Tribe 2 that we kept secret for all this time : )
This thing is quite big so hopefully will be a good surprise to most of you.

Puzzles in Totem Tribe 2
Puzzles were important part of original Totem Tribe and it is important to bring enough puzzles in Totem Tribe 2. Recently we finished the programming preparations necessary to create puzzle in TT2 and created the first one:

From now on, adding other puzzles will be way easier, we only need to create content objects and do some minor logic programming.

There will be basically 2 kinds of puzzles in TT2. Story-related and story-unrelated. Story-related puzzles are exactly like they were in TT1, while story-unrelated puzzles have two important changes:

1. Each puzzle has 6 difficulty levels. The higher difficulty - the greater reward. This means that you can find 2 similar puzzles at different places, but they will have different difficulty levels.

2. Story-unrelated puzzles are randomized - you will never know which one of those puzzles you will find next, where it will be, and the rewards from them are randomized too!

Hopefully this will add replay value and having several difficulty options on same puzzle will increase your playtime and fun from the game.

What do you think?

About the story and release plans.
As we are moving towards launching separate website for Totem Tribe 2 and closed alpha release date is getting a bit closer we wanted to shed some light on game's story structure and release plans.

The story of the game is planned to have following parts: Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Epilogue

One of the four chapters is planned roughly the size of original Totem Tribe so you can imagine how big it will be. We have drafts for first two chapters, but a lot of work required to implement them in the game, so we plan to release the closed alpha with Prologue only.

Prologue is basically an extensive tutorial that teaches you all the new stuff while you are being introduced to this new world and the story behind it. This includes one building location and couple of small quest locations.

Small re-iteration to those who missed the part about locations:
In TT2 you will have 2 types of levels - building locations where you can build your village, gather resources, train units, and quest locations where you only explore, solve puzzles, etc.

The quest locations is where the main story is going on, while building levels will have little to no storyline-related stuff, but will have different randomly generated content like puzzles, chests, hidden objects, etc.
Those things will be there to entertain you while you are building things. Then you can use those resources gathered and units trained to send into quest locations and play the storyline stuff (unlike TT1 where you were unable to transfer stuff between levels).
