Monkey Island Thorn Chest

I'm playing v1.02, got to Monkey Island, completed the primary objective and got the token. I picked up 9 chestnuts after killing thorn flowers, but I can't open the chest and when I click on it it still says I need to find 9 chestnuts. Is there something else I need to do?

You need to click chestnuts and then place them on chest.
